Situated on the coast (Costa Vicentina) and in the natural park of the Southeast Alentejo (Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e da Costa Vicentina), Sagres (Vila do Bispo), is the only council in Algarve that has two types of coast: the meridional (southern) coast and the occidental coast. For this reason talking about Vila do Bispo and Sagres is talking about the sea. And if the sea speaks, the fishes are it's words and fishing it's language, this wealth that always fed the mouth of populations being indispensable part of the economic life of this council. With a human presence since the Neolithic, the council of Vila do Bispo has a very wealth historical heritage, with a big number of fortress and forts located throughout the south coast complemented by the beauty of his churches – some adorned with carved gold – chapels. Distributed all over the council, you can find several archaeological treasures such as monoliths, cromeleques and golden pavestones.

The party is continuous as you can see all around the year with the celebration of several festivities, fairs and pilgrimages, complemented with diverse cultural initiatives.
